Public Assistance Workers Highlight the Harm SNAP Benefit Delays Will Cause the Community
SEIU Local 668 members who work in public assistance offices will call on Federal legislators and the White House to end the government shutdown and urge the General Assembly to pass a state budget.
When:
Wednesday, October 22, 2025 | 12:00 PM
Where:
Outside of the Dauphin County Assistance Office,
2432 N. 7th Street, Harrisburg, PA
What:
SEIU Local 668, public sector members who work for the Dauphin County Assistance Office, will hold a press conference to highlight the crisis caused by SNAP benefit delays.
Why:
The Federal shutdown, combined with the state budget impasse, has triggered a severe crisis in Pennsylvania, affecting the public and public workers alike. The latest impact, delaying SNAP benefits for upwards of two million Pennsylvanians, could devastate vulnerable families and create public safety hazards for clients and staff.
Speakers will also call on the White House to end its obstruction and come up with a workaround allowing states to issue SNAP benefits for November. During the 2018-2019 shutdown, the USDA paid February SNAP benefits in January, allowing Americans in need to continue to access vital food supports. This could be done today to ensure that families get SNAP benefits for November.
Speakers include SEIU Local 668 President Steve Catanese, and SEIU Local 668 members.
